Today, we are discussing “Androphonia”. This is made by two words, “andro” means male, and “phonia” means sound. It is a speech disorder when females have a low-pitched voice, less than 100Hz, and sound like a male voice.
How does puberty affect speech and quality of voice?
In puberty, women have some changes in their voice and pitch. Females should have a high-pitched voice and similarly, males have a low-pitched voice. Vice versa, when a male has high pitch voice and has bitten voice as a female voice then it’s called “puberphonia”. Both the Conditions are abnormal, and it requires to concern a speech therapist. They will give them suggestions and sessions as well to stable their pitch.
Cure of Androphonia:-
When we are talking about the cure of androphonia, this can be treated by some vocal exercises and type 4 Thyroplasty. But, it will also cure by doing the exercises of high pitch and low-pitched. Before going to exercises, It is important to note that voice is as important as other body functions are.
How can oral exercises help us?
Some exercises can help us to overcome the impact of pitched and stable them:-
Exercise 1:- Deep Breathing
We know that breathing is the most important activity for speech. It helps to open our throat and give space to generate the voice. While doing the breathing, you must focus on the fact that a higher-pitched voice needs more air. Continue practicing “breathing” helps a lot and make a clear way of voice.
Exercise 2:- Record your voice
By hearing your voice, you may focus on how are you speaking and what the sound is? Sometimes, when we heard our voice then we just hated the way we sounded because of the pitch. Focus on your voice and sounds while speaking.
Exercise 3:- Make a way of sound
It means that when you want high pitched voice then you have to make a high voice. For this, you’ve to make a clear way for breathing without any blockage. It helps us to make a clear voice while speaking and helps to stabilize our pitch. For a higher pitch, you try to make a strong voice that can travel from all over your body.
Exercise 4:- Yawn-Sigh Approach
Performing a yawn just before phonation would result in phonation with a relaxed vocal tract as it expands the pharynx and stretches and then relaxes the extrinsic laryngeal muscles, thus lowering the larynx in the neck to a more neutral position and permitting a more forward placement of the tongue in the oral cavity.
Some surgical procedures for Androphonia:-
There are some exercises for “Androphonia” disorder, but it can be cured by some surgical ways also. Like,
1. Laser Voice Surgery: Laser Voice surgery is also known as Voice laser surgery. The laser surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and a rigid endoscope is used to access the area of the vocal cords . The laser treatment has several advantages like

2. Vocal fold Injection: Vocal fold injection is a procedure used to correct glottic insufficiency, the condition that exists when vocal folds cannot close off the airway( glottis).
The duration of the effect of the injection depends on the material used.
